Trona Schools participate in National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program and Community Eligibility Provision therefore ALL Trona Elementary and High School K-12 students qualify for the P-EBT card. Frequently Asked Questions Question: How does P-EBT work for students attending schools that are providing meals through a Provision such as Community Eligibility Provision? Answer: For the purposes of P-EBT, all students who attend a Provision school are considered eligible for free and reduced-price school meals. If a student is directly certified, they do not need to apply for P-EBT and will automatically receive a P-EBT card in the mail. If a student is not directly certified and does not receive a PEBT card in the mail by about May 22nd, their parent or legal guardian can apply for P-EBT online. The P-EBT online application opens on May 22nd at: ca.p-ebt.org Question: Will younger siblings of students attending a Provision school be eligible for P-EBT? Answer: Only school-aged children

Dear Trona School District Families: At this time there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in San Bernardino County and Kern County. We are following guidance provided by the California Department of Education, California Department of Public Health and local public health officials. We have decided to cancel/postpone all upcoming events up until April 13th. These events include sporting events, banquets, field trips, pep rallies, club activities, staff conferences, and any other school related events. These policies will be effective immediately. We will align our actions with Kern County Health Department, Sierra Sands Unified School District, and upper desert Districts of San Bernardino County. The District will be preparing to deliver education to our students at home in the event of a closure if this becomes necessary. Today the Governor’s office will be releasing further information and as this develops we will continue to update our District. We will provide information regarding this situation as it becomes available and do our best to update everyone weekly. The following additional events are postponed/modified: Elementary: Parent/Teacher Conferences will now be held over the phone March 23-27. Your child will bring home a packet with any evaluation/test, anything pertinent to your child's academic progress. You will be able to view this packet while speaking to his/her teacher. The Awards Assembly on March 31st will include only students and staff. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. However, we still want to recognize your child's academic success. High School: SARB Meeting scheduled for March 19th will still continue, but will now take place by telephone. If you have received a letter to attend SARB on March 19th, please make sure the school has an updated phone number before March 19th. MORP Dance scheduled for March 27th is canceled. The basketball and cheer banquet scheduled for March 20th is postponed. District The ALICE Parent meeting that was scheduled for March 26th will be canceled and rescheduled at a later date. Students will continue to do the monthly drills. The Alice evacuation drill that was scheduled for April 3rd will be postponed and rescheduled at a later date.

Did you know that children can suffer academically if they miss 10 percent of school days? That’s just a couple days each month. Absences add up, whether they’re excused or unexcused. This September, join the Attendance Awareness Campaign and let’s work together to help all kids attend today so they can achieve tomorrow.

Hello, Parents and Guardians of Trona High School. We are excited about the start of school. Attached you will find the new school map detailing student drop off for the High School, student parking and the school entrance. Please remember the high school starts at 7:30 AM. Please be aware that on Tuesday, we will be going over the earthquake procedures and having an earthquake drill on Wednesday at 10 o’clock. In addition, we will also have crisis counselors here at the school for any students that may need them (trauma from the earthquake). Wednesday, September 4th we will be having “Back to School Night” from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Please arrive on time. We will be having you on a bell schedule. A flyer will be going out on Tuesday. Thank you so much for your patience. If you have any questions please email Joseph Wolfe at jwolfe@tjusd.net.

Due to the recent earthquakes and the damages done to the high school campus, school will start for both schools on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the elementary campus.

Dear Trona Parents/Guardians/Community:: Tonight, the Trona Board of Education approved the new start date for Trona High School and Trona Elementary. It will be on September 3rd, 2019. As of right now, school will finish at the same time on June 4th, 2020. Safety is and remains our highest priority for students and staff. Because of damages from the earthquake, there is no water at the high school. Currently, there is no timeline as to when it will be completed. In light of this, it is necessary for Trona High School to start school in the A wing at the Elementary campus. We will offer the same high school courses as planned. The Elementary school will be moved into the B wing. It is important to understand that the two schools will be separated. We are working on creating a separate experience for both schools. The elementary office will be in the B wing and the high school will be in the A wing. This is a temporary solution until we get more information on more permanent solutions. We are taking the necessary precautions to ensure that the two schools are separated (fencing). At this time both high school and elementary offices are open until we notify you that the high school office staff is moved to the elementary building. As we continue to make progress towards this move, we will continue to keep you informed. We will be scheduling a parent meeting in the near future to answer any questions that parents and students may have. We are grateful for your support. If you have any questions please contact Dr. Keith Tomes ktomes@tjusd.net and or Joseph Wolfe jwolfe@tjusd.net.

Because of the recent earthquakes, outside communities have graciously donated school supplies and backpacks for all students TK-12th grade. Please come down to Trona Elks Lodge on Saturday, August 17th at 12:00 noon and pick up your backpacks and school supplies. The backpacks will have the supplies needed per grade level (k-6). High School students will also be included, however not all supplies will be included depending on the teachers and subjects.

Attention Tornadoes!!! I hope you’re all having a relaxing time off. I am getting excited for this upcoming school year. Here are some dates to remember. On August 20th, at 6:00 pm in the library, we will be having 7th grade parent/student orientation which will cover school policies and answer any questions you might have. Our goal is to make sure everyone feels prepared and comfortable as we start year one of Jr. High. Refreshments will also be provided!!! We look forward to seeing you there. Our first day of school is Tuesday, August 21st. Please be sure that students are in their classroom by 7:30 am. Students can begin to come in to the High School office on Monday, August 20th to pick of their schedules. Students must bring all their pre-registration papers completed in order to pick up their schedules. Students that have not turned in their community service hours for the 2017-2018 school year will have to wait to receive their schedule on the August 20th, Monday. The High School Office will be closed for training on August 13th,14th and 15th. Our mission is to educate and empower all to be successful in college, career and community in the 21st century. We are honored that we have been entrusted with your child’s education. Trona High school is working hard to provide the most relevant, rigorous and current educational experience available. We take this charge seriously and are committed to the goal that every student leaves Trona High as an effective communicator, self directed learner, a responsible citizen and a complex thinker. Our staff members will be constantly collaborating and evaluating in order to make positive progress towards academic achievement and athletic success. I am grateful for our teachers, staff, coaches, and parents/community members who put in so much time on behalf of our students. We are absolutely committed to the RELENTLESS pursuit of academic success. We invite all involved to demonstrate this relentless attitude and grit as we work towards educating and empowering all. This partnership between, staff, students and parents is essential to ensuring this reality. I look forward to August 21st as we celebrate a brand new school year. Please join us!!
